Chapter 5: Failed Restart

When I first opened my eyes, I saw my mother. After nine months of carrying and pain, she had brought me into the world. She looked at me with a choked voice and tears in her eyes… but I couldn't understand what she was saying. My mother was a young woman full of vitality. She held me in her arms, and even though I couldn't see her standing, I could tell she was tall. Her reddish-blonde hair reached down to her waist – a strange but impressive color. Her eyes were golden, with blue-green details.

My mother looked me in the eyes and smiled. "You are our light," she whispered. "Our life begins again, with you."

And suddenly, there was my father! He entered the room as if he were a superstar, as if the moment of his arrival had to be unforgettable. In his hands, he held a doll and balloons – obviously for me. Flowers and chocolates for my mother… at least that's what I wanted to believe. I hope not for someone else!

He was smiling, they were talking, they were kissing. He was strangely dressed, almost frightening. He made faces at me and tickled me, while at the same time he was talking to my mom. I was impressed by his eyes, which were both brown with gray-green details, and his reddish-blonde hair was short and shaved on the sides. They continued to talk and smile at me, but I didn't understand anything; I only heard a hum.

Everything seemed normal, but something was wrong. It was as if an invisible thread was pulling my soul outwards. A faint whisper echoed in my mind, but I couldn't make out the words. My eyelids grew heavy, and the hum I had heard before began to distort. I feel strange! My head hurts a lot... I'm going to throw up...

This feeling… have I experienced it before? My hands—they were changing color. I didn't have time to react. The nausea came on suddenly, and before I could understand, a nurse quickly lifted me from my mother's arms. I felt my body tremble. Panic. They all gathered around me. A beautiful, wonderful scene. Heh heh... but I couldn't hold my head up.

I heard voices, but I didn't understand anyone... I saw their hands above me light up. But I didn't understand anything... I felt my eyes were heavy... I started to hear but not see! I heard a voice of an adult saying "where is this beautiful baby who has come into our life..." but at the same time, I heard that they had to do something "because his pulse is dropping…" Now I understand. Why couldn't I hear before? Sleep... I need sleep... time for sleep...

"No, no! Hold on, my little one!" My mother's voice trembled. Her hands held me tight, as if with her strength she could keep me in their world. But my body had other plans. My eyelids closed. A sense of freedom, weightlessness, and... then... silence.

The world began to dissolve around me, like a painting fading in the rain. My parents' voices became distant, almost as if they belonged to another time. I felt as if I was slipping through a veil between life and death. And then... silence. A gentleman entered, saying, "Where is this beautiful baby who has come to our earth?" but he saw the panic and paused.

A terrifying aura, blue, black, purple, came out from within him and spread, covering the entire clinic, affecting everyone, causing them drowsiness and fatigue.

And then, I opened my eyes. Not in the maternity ward. Not in the world of the living. In a corridor… bright, endless, immersed in a darkness that waited at its edges to swallow me.

The corridor of souls seemed endless. The bright balls of light moved as if they were being led by an invisible force, following a rhythm. Every movement was accompanied by a faint sound—like a whisper coming from the depth of the corridor. They seemed to pulsate, to emit an energy that I felt piercing my skin. As I walked, the darkness at the edges seemed to move, as if something was watching me, waiting for the right moment to appear.

My heart was pounding, but without fear. It was as if these bright balls of light were calling me, a mystery that I could not explain. Each of their movements caused awe and an inexplicable feeling of peace within me. I stood in front of the light. I felt its warmth, its pull. My body was changing, my mind racing with a thousand thoughts.

Another figure passed me, semi-transparent, as if it belonged neither here nor there. Its eyes looked at me… and then it vanished into the darkness.

"Where am I????" I thought. I feel quite relaxed, why? Where am I going? To tell the truth, I don't remember how I got here. Did I die? Wasn't I a baby just a moment ago? What happened? What did I do? Was I not good, or was I bad... I don't remember, but who judges that? Although I have some memories of my previous lives… this is quite strange. I remember I was a baby, how do I have memories from my other lives???

And somewhere there... I heard a voice say… "Hey, you, excuse me." I turned towards her and saw that she was pointing at me. So I went towards the bright figure, I didn't know what was happening anyway.

"Okay, I forgive you. But don't point at me, it feels weird." I asked with bewilderment, "What do you want from me? Where am I?" At the same time, I looked around. Maybe I could understand something, but it was in vain.

The light around her seemed to pulsate with every word. As if she carried with her the power of a world beyond my imagination. She responded quickly: "I am your judge and your angel, Aurora. You are at the point of sorting, a soul, and here I will explain a few things. Then you will continue to the end of the corridor to go to your new life. Also, I am a substitute for your old angel because your life went a bit wrong, and the evaluation we have from him is… how to put it, zero, so he was banished, because he was lazy…"

The first thing that came to my mind was that the previous angel was like a civil servant. I won't get tired much, so... The money will be paid at the end of the month. "Uh... nice... I wasn't playing on hardcore mode, I have a second chance??"

She tilted her head to the side "What???" Hmm, remnants from my previous life, huh? I'll cover it though. "Umm, never mind, nothing heh... just tell me what I need to do?" She didn't linger, so she quickly continued with her subject.

When she spoke of my opportunity, the light around her changed. From blinding and warm, it became softer, like a caress that carried with it a sense of anticipation and sorrow. It was as if she hid within her a world full of secrets and power. For the first time, Aurora's voice became serious. Her words seemed to weigh on me, as if they carried with them centuries of knowledge and responsibility. What did this mean for me? Was I ready to take on such a role?

The light behind her flickered, and for a moment, I saw something… deeper in her eyes. A kind of authority that I couldn't fully comprehend. As if she was more than just a judge. Something... primordial.

"Look," she said, "your previous angel didn't do his job properly. He didn't evaluate anything, he put whatever he wanted, and he just left your life to chance..." Aurora stopped for a moment and took a breath. She looked at me thoughtfully before continuing. "When I reviewed your life a bit – without the permission of my superiors, by the way – I saw that you did a lot of things with meaning. But no one evaluated them... You did things with respect, you showed love where you should have."

I said almost in a whisper. "Yes? And?" Unknowingly, she continued: "And you prayed to be heard, you stood where you should have, even if they didn't want you to. They didn't thank you, but you didn't care much. And many more things..."

Aurora's words were like a weight on me. It was strange. On the one hand, I felt an inexplicable gratitude. On the other, my mind was filled with questions. Was I ready to take on such a burden? Could I prove my worth? And what if I made the same mistakes again? Aurora's words swirled in my mind, heavy as stone. I knew she was talking about something bigger than me, something that would define my entire existence. I felt a mixture of awe and fear, as if I had to decide for the future without knowing the consequences.

I just stared at her in wonder. "All this, me? I don't remember which life you're referring to. Is that why I'm here? Is that right?" A faint laugh was heard from her side. "Yes, of course. Here we clean and purify souls, we erase the old. If they are not erased, memories and knowledge from other lives will come, which can cause confusion. We carefully monitor their path in their new dimension. If a soul in the first life was not good, in the second life we give them many trials so that they can overcome them and become stronger. Otherwise, if they were good, we help them do more good, but we also push them to try the bad, and to judge for themselves... Of course, whoever has done bad things and does bad things again will get sick easily from various illnesses, and in the third and last chance, if the first and second lives were bad – unstable – then they can fade quickly from this third chance, simply because their energy body carries the residue that they didn't bother to clean."

"You always start pure, from scratch. However, some souls carry weights from old lives—things that were not completely erased. And those… they have the potential not to be erased but to be transferred to their new life and continue with them inside them. In the future, they will create chaos, you understand what I'm saying, right?"

I had heard everything, but two buttons she had in front of her piqued my curiosity, but I decided not to ask. "Umm, yes, I'm trying, but how am I connected to all this? Okay, I understood that my angel was a bit… irresponsible, but from what you're saying, I was good? But in my pre-previous life I wasn't?"

She nodded positively. "In your first life, no, you weren't that good, but in the second you were more careful. You considered everything, and whatever you did had a weight. As for your angel, he probably didn't like you… what can I say… that's why I will try to fix things a bit. I will talk to my superiors, that's why I have given you this opportunity and sent you to another world. Unfortunately, I don't know where you went, just as I have no idea what kind of world this is that I have sent you to, because what we call stars and galaxies, etc., there are many planets that are habitable, and as you can understand, we also have a hierarchy here, we send different ones from time to time to organize and evolve things, we give them a term for a few years. Some do well and others do terribly, what can I say. Wherever you go, try to walk straight, to help others, not just yourself, understood?"

I raised my hands to my chest and said in awe, "Oh, oh... I smell trouble, maybe we should reconsider?" A faint laugh was heard from her side again. "It's not in my hands. A holy council will be held to decide what to do with you. I will try for the best, I will emphasize that your angel also lost his evaluation. And to remind you, your angel, the previous one, you can find him in the world you are going to. He was banished because he simply did not function according to the scales, but with his own will, so he was blinded, and he began to deviate. So you can find him again on your path. You won't know him, but he will find you and try to crush you. And if you find him, remember… he is no longer the angel you knew. His intentions have been distorted. Such beings do not need much to start a battle-war or something in general…"

My stomach clenched. This was not good. I already had enough trouble with my own existence – now I had to worry about a fallen angel who might want to crush me? "Great, perfect! I couldn't have asked for anything better! Maybe you can throw me into a black hole to get it over with? Or even better, give me a sign that says 'Here, find your new target'?"

"Anyway, do what you think. I hope I prove worthy of your expectations. I hope we have a beautiful collaboration…"

I started walking again, and a little further on I stopped. I turned and looked at Aurora. She had raised her hand and was waving at me. "Uh, Aurora, thank you, and I hope if I need any help I can call you to light my way. I hope I learn the way to invoke you."

She lowered her hand and nodded positively. "I will be happy to collaborate with you, you will learn. I will show you whatever you need for us to communicate, I will be close to you, you will feel me but you will not see me! So go forward! My energy will always be there for you, make sure you embrace it!" She said goodbye to me with a bow.

I didn't say anything, I just walked forward… but something was still on my mind. The two buttons Aurora had in front of her. She didn't press them. She didn't even look at them. As if they didn't exist. What exactly did they do? Would I ever find out? Or would I prefer never to know?

I stood in front of the light. I felt its warmth, its pull. My body was changing, my mind racing with a thousand thoughts. For a moment, I hesitated. The light in front of me was full of warmth and life, but something inside me screamed to stop. It was as if someone… or something… was lurking on the other side.

And yet, there was no other way. Only forward.

Let the battle begin!
